What are they 'Xanadu'-ing?

Olivia Newton-John 'classic' 'Xanadu' is set to hit the stage.

Mar 29 2006

Be afraid. Be very afraid. A stage adaptation of one of the worst films of all time could be coming to a theatre near you soon.

'Xanadu', the 1980 film that Time Out called 'an experience so vacuous it's almost frightening', is to become an off-Broadway musical in spring 2007, before possibly transferring to a larger New York venue.

The original pic, which was directed by Robert Greenwald, starred Olivia Newton-John as a muse sent by Zeus to inspire the creation of a roller disco. Or something like that anyway.

The Razzies voted it the worst musical of the last 25 years, although it's recently built up something of a cult following, so don't be surpised if the stage version reaches these shores sometime soon.
