Film idol with Steven Spielberg
A new reality TV show will offer contestants the chance to win a development deal at DreamWorks.
Apr 7 2006
Is Steven Spielberg the new Simon Cowell? A new show could see the most successful director in history soon becoming a star of reality TV.
'On the Lot', which Spielberg is producing with reality TV guru Mark Burnett, will pit 16 wannabe film-makers against each other to win a development deal at DreamWorks.
The contestants will be split into four teams who then have to produce a short film in a different genre each week.
In the style of 'Pop Idol', a panel of judges will then critique the shorts before viewers vote for their favourite.
'All through my career I've done what I can to discover new talent and give them a start,' said Spielberg. 'This opportunity… allows all of us to reach out directly to open a much wider door.'
'On the Lot' is set to screen early next year in the States, and will be an international competition allowing film-makers from all over the world to compete.
