Beam me up JJ!
'M:I3' director JJ Abrams is planning an 11th 'Star Trek' feature in the shape of a prequel.
Apr 21 2006
Unperturbed by the critical mauling that greeted the 'Star Wars' prequels (and no doubt encouraged by their mammoth box office receipts), Paramount is planning to resuscitate their own hugely successful space saga.
The company today announced plans to administer the kiss of life to the 'Star Trek' franchise by employing JJ Abrams to write and direct a 'Trek' prequel for a 2008 release.
'Mission: Impossible III' helmer Abrams and fellow scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will tell the tale of James T Kirk and Mr Spock's early days, covering their first meeting at the Starfleet Academy and their first mission into space.
So unless Paramount can get their hands on a really good plastic surgeon, it's unlikely that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy will reprise their roles, which begs the question - who can possibly fill their Starfleet shoes and play the iconic figures? Answers in the comments below please…

- Casting aside, how are they going to reconcile the fact that Kirk and Spock probably didn't actually know each other at the Academy let alone become friends...the pilot episode (Menagerie) and its follow up show that Spock served under Pike and Kirk knew nothing about Spock's life. Just MHO but read lance mannion's views http://lancemannion.typepad.com/lance_mannion/2006/04/when_kirk_met_s.html Posted on May 13 2006 17:57

- I recon Jason Behr (Roswell) for kirk and Spock i'll have to think about, though Matt Damon has done some roles that could make him a Kirk. Posted on Apr 21 2006 13:02

- Gotta go with unknowns - you need guys with absolutely no baggage to play the captain and the vulcan. Posted on Apr 21 2006 11:50
