Anderson set to 'Edukate'
Brad Anderson will direct a remake of 'The Edukators' and a dark thriller called 'Transsiberian'.
Apr 27 2006
Brad Anderson, the man who encouraged Christian Bale to go all Posh Spice for 'The Machinist', has announced two projects in the pipeline.
First up is 'Transsiberian', the story of a young couple who become embroiled in a murderous plot during the legendary China to Russia train journey.
'Transsiberian' is set to shoot in Eastern Europe in October, after which time Anderson plans to direct an English-language remake of 'The Edukators'.
The story of three rebellious youths whose anti-capitalist politics leads them into a world of protest and crime, Anderson says he can't wait to get his hands on it.
'What excites me most is the way the story straddles genres,' the director told the Hollywood Reporter. 'On the one hand it's a suspenseful thriller, and on the other, it's a provocative and timely political debate. Yet at its heart it's really a very sly, very dark romantic comedy.'
Producers Palmer West and Jonah Smith plan to transfer the politics of the piece to America, as they believe the ideas and concepts will resonate in the States. ''The Edukators' was an incredibly relevant film that really struck a chord with moviegoers overseas,' they explained. 'We can't wait to see how Brad interprets the film socially and politically for American audiences.'
