'Rush Hour 3' officially announced

The TOMB says 'No!' but Chris Tucker says 'Yes!' to 'Rush Hour 3'.

May  5 2006

Looking for an excuse to celebrate on this beautiful Friday morning? Well look no further than this nugget of news – Chris Tucker has finally said yes to 'Rush Hour 3', meaning the 'eagerly' anticipated sequel will go into production sooner rather than later.

Tucker, who has only made two films in the last eight years ('Rush Hour' and 'Rush Hour 2' – the kid has clearly got taste!) will earn $20 million for starring in the flick as well as 20% of the gross.

Co-star Jackie Chan will receive $15 million plus 15% of the gross, which seems a little unfair as he's the one who seems to put his life on the line every day making these films. However, I'm sure any sense of injustice will be tempered by the fact that Chan owns distribution rights in China and Hong Kong, where he's more popular than rice (probably).

Speaking of the project, producer Toby Emmerich said: 'The first two 'Rush Hour' films have become pop-culture classics, and we are confident that the third one will deliver the trademark mix of great action and big laughs that made the previous films so successful.' Which leads us to conclude that Emmerich's definition of the word 'classic' is very different to ours here at Time Out.

Whatever the case, 'Rush Hour 3' should be ready for release next summer.
