Cruise completes 'Impossible' chart mission
'Mission: Impossible III' has a massive opening weekend at the London box office.
May 9 2006
The sun is shining, crazy people are out on the roads and there's a Tom Cruise film at the top of the London charts – summer must finally be here.
And with 'Mission: Impossible III', the world's most famous new dad has obliterated the box office competition, grossing nearly twice as much as the next nine films combined.
Indeed, while the chart reads £446,858 from 20 screens, the film's actual gross is £504,803 as it opened on Thursday.
In spite of such blockbuster dominance at the top, it was also a good weekend for low-budget British comedy, with 'Confetti' opening at number two with a very respectable £72,511 total.
With a slew of positive reviews, this wedding-based comedy could be the first sleeper hit of the season.
And one place below, 'Inside Man' continues its incredible run on the chart, dropping from just one place from two to three after seven weeks on the chart.
Further down the chart it's much of a much-ness, with the only changes of note being 'Lemming' climbing back up the chart from six to five, and Bruce Willis thriller '16 Blocks' going into freefall from one to six.
As for next week, 'Brick's mission, should the film choose to accept it, is to oust the Cruise-ster from the top.
