Michael Moore (Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine) has announced that US healthcare is to be the subject of his next documentary. Without a National Healthcare system American citizens are forced to get insurance - but many cannot afford the high prices and are confused by the complicated small print, which can lead to them getting inadequate cover.
For those who watched his TV show, The Awful Truth, shown in Britain on Channel 4, one programme was especially hard to forget. Moore shamed HMO (US health insurers) into finally agreeing to pay for a man's transplant by holding a rehearsal for his funeral outside their headquarters. Without it he would have died.
In a similar way, during the 90 minutes of filming, Moore hopes to embarrass health insurance companies and hospitals into continuing to care for patients too poor to afford cover.
