Is The Village really Running Out of Time?
Publisher Simon & Schuster claim that The Village is suspiciously close to their 1995 children's book 'Running Out of Time', written by Margaret Peteson Haddix.
Sep 21 2004
It's not the first time the writer and director of The Sixth Sense, M Night Shyamalan, has been in hot water with his fellow writers. Last year screenwriter Robert Mcllhinney alleged that he had based Signs on his script Lord of the Barrens: The Jersey Devil.
The latest accusation has been made by the publisher Simon & Schuster, who claim that The Village is suspiciously close to their 1995 children's book 'Running Out of Time', written by Margaret Peteson Haddix.
According to Reuters, Haddix first heard about the similarities when she received emails and calls from journalists asking her if she'd sold the book to Shyamalan. She hadn't.
Shyamalan's production company, Blinding Edge, have dismissed these claims as 'meritless'.
