'X-Men' stand firm on London chart

'Poseidon' has that sinking feeling at the box office, while 'United 93' comes straight in at number four.

Jun  6 2006

The X-Men managed to do what the combined powers of Tom Hanks, Ron Howard, Dan Brown and a few million 'Da Vinci Code' fans couldn't by spending more than one week at number one on the London chart.

'X-Men: The Last Stand' spent a second week at the top of the pile over the weekend, taking £164,905 from 18 screens, while 'The Da Vinci Code' held firm at number two with £160,546 from a whopping 22 screens.

'Poseidon' was a new entry at number three, though based on some pretty poor reviews across the board, the big budget behemoth will doubtless soon sink without a trace.

And the much talked about 'United 93' came straight in at number four, an impressive debut for a film that isn't the easiest to watch.

Further down the chart, 'Mission: Impossible III' drops from three to five, while 'The Wild' and 'Friends With Money' hold firm at six and seven respectively.

Richard E Grant's fine directorial debut 'Wah-Wah' is a new entry at number eight, 'Fanaa' is the first big Bollywood hit of the year, grossing a sizeable £14,108 haul from just three screens to enter the chart at nine, and TOMB favourite 'Brick' falls like the proverbial, from four to ten.

Next week, expect the Prince of Darkness to stir things up with 'The Omen' remake hitting screens on today's devlish date (click here for exclusive 'Omen' interviews).
