McGuigan to shoot 'Four Knights'

'Lucky Number Slevin' helmer Paul McGuigan will tell the tale of Thomas Beckett's assassins.

Jun 13 2006

Paul McGuigan is to direct 'Four Knights', a screen version of the events surrounding the assassination of Thomas Beckett.

Based on Paul Webb's play 'Four Knights in Knaresboro', the story revolves around the four men who killed the Archbishop of Canterbury, and their refuge in Knaresborough Castle as public opinion outside turns against them.

Little else is known about the project at this time, although I caught a production of the show a few years ago, and it was a bawdy romp that portrays the assassins (one of whom was played by Nick Moran) as lovable rogues on the run from the law.

McGuigan, whose previous projects include 'Gangster No.1' and the recently released 'Lucky Number Slevin', will shoot the film this autumn for The Weinstein Company, which doubtless means his big screen version of 'The Equalizer' (first reported here) will now be put on the back burner.
