'The Lake House' proves popular in London
The re-teaming of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock goes straight to the top of the box office chart.
Jun 28 2006
A plethora of new pictures appeared in London cinemas over the weekend, causing massive ructions on the chart.
The most successful of these new flicks was the Keanu Reeves/Sandra Bullock romantic time travel drama 'The Lake House', which took the top spot with an unremarkable £52,562 haul.
That was enough to defeat Ken Loach's Palme d’Or-winning 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley' however, which came in at number two with a take of £48,727.
Kung fu epic 'Fearless' also debuted high on the chart, coming straight in at number four with £43,161, just behind last week's number one 'Thank You For Smoking'.
Permanent fixtures 'The Da Vinci Code' and 'X-Men: The Last Stand' fell to five and six respectively, while the slightly less high profile 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' and 'Hard Candy' dropped down to seven and eight.
Which left two unexpected films propping up the chart – 'United 93' made an inexplicable re-entry at number nine after four weeks on release, while 'Krish' was a new entry at ten, proving that Bollywood pics are still popular in the Big Smoke.
Next week, the pickings are slim, though animated kiddie flick 'Over the Hedge' will doubtless be the one to beat.
