'Solomon Kane' aims for big screen fame
Michael Bassett will adapt the Robert E Howard fantasy classic.
Jul 25 2006
Horror helmer Michael Bassett is moving into the fantasy genre with a big screen version of 'The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane'.
Simply titled 'Solomon Kane', the film will be based on the Robert E Howard epic about a mercenary who owes his soul to the devil but hopes to redeem himself by fighting evil in the name of good.
Bassett, who directed 'Deathwatch' and the excellent forthcoming survival horror 'Wilderness', had this to say about the project:
'Being given the chance to bring 'Solomon Kane' to the screen is a dream come true. I've been a fantasy fan my whole life but until very recently there have been so few great fantasy movies.
'We know the audience is out there just waiting for great films like this and with Kane I'm getting the chance to bring this fantastically intense and dark character to the screen in a story that will just blow audiences away.'
'Solomon Kane' is scheduled to shoot in Eastern Europe in 2007, with a comic serial and role-playing video game also going into production to tie in with the film's release.
