Man of Steel defeats Captain Jack in London
'Superman Returns' reigns supreme in the capital's cinemas.
Jul 26 2006
'Superman Returns' held onto the top spot on the London chart at the weekend, narrowly seeing off a valiant challenge from 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'.
The Man of Steel grossed £228,146 from 18 screens while Captain Jack and co managed 217,390 from 22 to bag second place.
Both hauls were enough to see off a slew of new entries further down the chart, with the heavily hyped chick flick 'The Break-Up' and kid flick 'Stormbreaker' both underperforming at three and four respectively.
Below them 'Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties' inexplicably shot in at number five, while the challenging Australian drama 'Little Fish' came in at number six.
Aside from that, the rest of the chart was pretty much a non-event. Next week, expect Pixar's latest 'Cars' to storm to the top of the ten.
