Bond gets Royal treatment

'Casino Royale' will be this year's Royal Film Performance.

Jul 26 2006

James Bond's tireless service to queen and country is set to continue this November when the new 007 adventure 'Casino Royale' will be the chosen film for the 60th Royal Film Performance.

The world premiere screening will take place on November 14 2006 at the Odeon Leicester Square, the proceeds going to the Cinema & Television Benevolent Fund, a charity providing practical and financial assistance to employees of the film and commercial television industries and their families in times of hardship.

A near-simultaneous screening will take place at the Odeon West End, followed by a second, late-night screening at the Odeon Leicester Square. The film will then premiere at cinemas in Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Leeds and Plymouth 24 hours later.

Based on Ian Fleming's first Bond book published in 1953, the 21st Bond film will star newcomer Daniel Craig as the super-spy, and it is widely hoped that the film will introduce a more grounded, less farcical edge to the oft-spoofed franchise.
