Mel Gibson update
The superstar could spend up to six months in prison for drunken driving.
Aug 3 2006
As 'Gibsongate' continues to gather steam, the 'Mad Max' star has been finally been charged with drunken driving following his arrest on Friday night.
The Los Angeles County district attorney's office charged the star with misdemeanour driving under the influence. In a statement, the DA said Gibson was stopped after a Sheriff's deputy 'allegedly observed him driving his Lexus LS at more than 85mph'.
The statement added that an 'open bottle of tequila allegedly was found in the car'.
If convicted, he could spend six months in jail, but as a first time DUI offender, Gibson is likely to face probation, a fine and possibly community service.
