'Miami Vice' edges Man of Steel in London
Michael Mann's excellent action thriller bags the top spot on the London chart.
Aug 9 2006
The Man of Steel was finally knocked off his perch atop the London chart this week, with a couple of undercover cops poaching pole position.
'Miami Vice' deservedly stormed to the top of the chart with a £228,305 haul, a figure that was no doubt buoyed by the glowing review it received in Time Out's first ever podcast.
It was also a good weekend for 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest', which rose from three to two after five weeks on release, leap-frogging 'Superman Returns' in the process.
Further down the chart 'Cars' continues to under-perform, dropping from four to five with a (relatively) minuscule gross of £61,860 from 18 screens.
'My Super Ex-Girlfriend' and 'The Ant Bully' came in at six and seven respectively, but as I've got absolutely no opinion of either film, I'll ignore their presence.
And finally, Time Out favourite 'Three Times' came straight in at number ten, an impressive debut for a film that is only (and somewhat ironically) playing on three screens.
Next week 'Monster House', 'Nacho Libre' and the piss poor 'Lady in the Water' should spice things up at the top.
