Kevin Smith wins in Edinburgh

'Clerks II' takes home the audience award while 'Brothers of the Head' is named best British film.

Aug 29 2006

The awards have been handed out at this year's Edinburgh Film Festival, with Kevin Smith's 'Clerks II' walking off with the audience prize.

The belated slacker sequel received 78% of audience votes, and having seen and enjoyed it myself, I can heartily agree with the people of Edinburgh.

'Brothers of the Head', a mock rock doc about conjoined twins, won the Michael Powell award for the year's best British film, narrowly defeating the critically acclaimed 'London to Brighton'.

That film did not go home empty handed however, with helmer Paul Andrew Williams winning the Skillset New Directors Award for his impressive urban thriller.

Finally, the best documentary award went to Jake Clennel for 'The Great Happiness Space: Tale of an Osaka Love Thief', about male escorts at a Japanese club.

Check back to The TOMB later today for our own festival round-up.
