FrightFest reviewed

Let Giles Edwards take you by the hand and lead you through this year's gore fest.

Sep  7 2006

As usual this year a friend became betrothed on the same weekend as FrightFest, meaning that yet again I had to endure the horror of a lengthy church service rather than the horror of the UK's premiere festival of gore.

Happily however, I was able to attend the Friday night screening of 'Pan's Labyrinth', Guillermo Del Toro's brilliant, beautiful, unforgettable companion piece to the equally wonderful 'Devil's Backbone'.

The rapturously received flick was then followed by a Q&A with Del Toro himself, in which the foul-mouthed charmer waxed lyrical about examining the repercussions of the Spanish Civil War, working yet again with fellow film genius Alfonso Cuaron and making his most personal film to date.

We'll have more on 'Pan's Labyrinth' nearer the time of the film's release, but for now, let me direct you to Giles Edwards's righteous, rambling report from the festival, in which he offers his two cents worth on pretty much every film featured at the fest. To enter the disturbed void that is Giles's mind, click here.
