List lunacy

The TOMB calls for an immediate end to all list shows.

Sep 25 2006

Having spent an abhorrent evening in front of the TV last night, The TOMB would like to start the week by making a request to channels Four and Five to please stop making those abominable list shows.

It was Five's turn last night with 'The Greatest Ever Movie Blockbusters', a 165-minute snore-a-thon in which people I've never heard of discussed a collection of films that were far from great.

Apparently voted for by the (seemingly lobotomised) general public, I understood the inclusion of 'Titanic', 'Star Wars', 'Saving Private Ryan' and the like, but when 'I, Robot', 'Die Another Day' and 'The Matrix Reloaded' reared their ugly heads, I started to lose the will to live.

And when the grimly c-list talking heads started waxing lyrical about 'American Pie 2', I actually found myself considering ending it all, with only a quick flick to the golf highlights on BBC2 changing my mind.

So if anyone out there in TV land is reading this, you've clearly scraped the final scraps of excrement from the bottom of the barrel, so please, please, please stop this madness now!
