'The Departed' continues to reign in London

Jigsaw and his 'Saw III' pals were unable to oust Scorsese's gangsters from the top spot in town.

Oct 31 2006

Scorsese, DiCaprio, Damon, Nicholson and co. continued to dominate in London cinemas over the weekend, with 'The Departed' holding on to the top spot after four weeks on release.

The hugely enjoyable thriller held off a lacklustre challenge from 'Saw III', though that may have had much to do with the horror flick not screening for critics and therefore not getting a single review before release.

Further down the chart, the Russell Crowe/Ridley Scott flick 'A Good Year' made a deservedly poor debut at number five, a box office performance that will hopefully deter Crowe from further 'comedy' in the future.

As expected, the frankly rubbish 'Step Up' could only manage a new entry at number seven, while Andrea Arnold's dark, disturbing and quite brilliant 'Red Road' came in at a disappointing eight.

Next week, 'Borat' will doubtless end Scorsese's reign at the top, and rightly so as it's the funniest film I've seen in years!
