Baldwin terminates Arnie voiceover
Alec Baldwin is insisting his narration be removed from a new documentary about Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Nov 1 2006
Alec Baldwin has demanded that the voiceover he recorded for a new documentary about Arnold Schwarzenegger be terminated because the film contains footage of Nazi rallies.
'Running With Arnold' charts the rise of everyone's favourite bodybuilder/film star/politician to his current position as governor of California.
Baldwin completed the narration, then was apparently horrified to discover that the final film contained footage of Nazi rallies and information linking friends of Arnie and his father to the Nazi party.
In an article on the Huffington Post website, Baldwin said 'I was somewhat dismayed by some of the images. The filmmakers hammer Schwarzenegger over his private behaviour and his record as governor. But Schwarzenegger deserves to be treated fairly and the film's images of Nazi rallies were over the line.'
'The Hunt for Red October' star wrote to the makers and demanded his voice be removed, offering to return his fee in full. He also instructed his legal team to issue a 'cease-and-desist' order.
A lawsuit may delay distribution, but producer Mike Gabrawy, who said Baldwin received the script a month before recording and had been invited to several screenings of the film, told the Associated Press that it would not be changed.
He said 'What's really shocking about this situation is that this is not really a critical look at Arnold - there's a lot more we could've done to be critical.'
