No lesbian love for Beyoncé and Longoria

Both the singer and the 'Desperate Housewives' star deny plans to 'tip the velvet'.

Nov 15 2006

In news that is sure to disappoint red-blooded males across the globe, Beyoncé Knowles and 'Desperate Housewives' star Eva Longoria have quashed rumours that they are to star in a big screen adaptation of 'Tipping the Velvet'.

Originally a novel written by Sarah Waters, 'Tipping the Velvet' tells the story of a lesbian romance in Victorian England.

It was successfully adapted by the BBC in 2002 and it had been reported that Sofia Coppola was to direct a film version, with Longoria and Beyoncé as her first choices for the starring roles.

Beyoncé seemingly stoked up the rumours when she was quoted by the New York Post as saying 'We've had 'Brokeback Mountain', now it's time for this divine novel to get the same treatment.'

However, one of the R'n'B diva's representatives issued a swift denial, telling People magazine 'This is not happening. We've never heard of this film.'

Longoria also spoke to People to deny the rumours, pleading for everyone to 'stop the madness'.

'Believe me, I would love to work with Beyoncé one day,' she explained. 'But this is definitely not something we are doing together. It's completely and absolutely not true.'
