Bond and Borat do box office battle
'Casino Royale' retains the top spot while there are five new entries on the London chart.
Nov 29 2006
There was a slew of new entries on the London chart over the weekend, but nothing could budge the combined might of Bond and Borat at the top of the chart.
'Casino Royale' continues to pack them in at number one, and the film's £748,678 weekend gross was more than the rest of the top ten combined.
'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' is also well on its way to becoming the biggest comedy of the year, retaining its position at number two after four weeks on release.
The first new entry is Guillermo Del Toro's marvellous 'Pan's Labyrinth' at number three. A former Time Out film of the week, it's encouraging to see this (relatively) low-budget Mexican flick attracting such crowds.
Bollywood action thriller 'Dhoom 2' is the next new entry, coming straight in at five with a remarkable £36,054 considering it is playing at just five screens.
The subject of our current podcast, 'Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny', is not far behind at seven, while two wholly unnecessary sequels, 'The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause' and 'Jackass: Number Two', complete the new entry fest at eight and nine respectively.
Next week, 'Flushed Away' and 'Stranger than Fiction' will try, and fail, to break the dominance of Bond.
