Greenaway goes gaming
Peter Greenaway is working on a videogame to accompany his latest feature.
Nov 30 2006
'Pirates of the Caribbean', 'Superman Returns' and 'Cars' are the kind of films you'd expect to have videogame tie-ins, but a Peter Greenaway flick about a long-dead painter? Don't laugh, because the director of 'The Pillow Book' and 'The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover' is currently creating a computer game to accompany his latest feature.
Greenaway recently completed work on 'Nightwatching', which details the life and times of Dutch master Rembrandt and the controversy that surrounded his painting Night Watch, which revealed the identity of a killer.
The as-yet-untitled game will tie in with the film, giving players the chance to solve the murder for themselves.
Greenaway will also release 'J'Accuse', an 80-minute documentary that will further examine the mystery and, according to Screen Daily, 'explore the decline in visual literacy in contemporary culture'.
All three projects are set to appear at next year's Cannes Film Festival, and if the game is a success, expect Ken Loach and Mike Leigh to follow suit with 'Ae Fond Kiss' and 'Vera Drake' games.
