'Super Freak' Rick biopic planned
Sheldon Turner is penning a script about the life and times of funkadelic superstar Rick James.
Dec 14 2006
A film about seminal funk superstar Rick James is in the works, loosely based on the musician's own memoir.
'Super Freak' will detail the life and times of the troubled music pioneer, who died in 2004 after years of drink and drug abuse and several run-ins with the law.
His colourful career included stints with Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and the Stone City Band, while his biggest solo hit was 'Super Freak', which was later sampled by MC Hammer on 'U Can't Touch This'.
The project has already gained the support of the singer's estate, and Sheldon Turner, who scripted the recent remake of 'The Longest Yard', will adapt the memoir.

- i dunno but i know everyone want Dave Chapelle for him just because of the skits well i dont think that should happen. just because a certain actor plays spoofs someone really well in a sketch i don't think they should get that person to play them if so then they might as well get debra wilson for the whitney houston biopic. personally im seeing terrance howard as rick james maybe if he looses some weight i could see it more Posted on Jun 05 2011 05:59

- If this movie is done correctly, it should be an amazing and entertaining story. Rick James really led an action packed life, from Vietnam draft dodger to overtly sexual and drug related situations which he managed to put into his music. Will people remember that there was a fierce rivalry between James and the then up and coming Prince in the late 70's/early 80's? Stints in prison included, yes it should be quite a film.
