Rodriguez hints at 'Grindhouse' sequel
The forthcoming horror has the potential to spawn several sequels.
Dec 19 2006
Quentin Tarantino has never made a secret of the extent to which '70s exploitation films inspire him, but his next few projects might go as far as focussing entirely on the genre. Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are working on the double feature 'Grindhouse', a homage to exploitation movies, and are already considering potential sequels.
'The best thing about Grindhouse is how easily it can be a franchise,' says Rodriguez. 'We can do kung fu, blaxploitation, you name it.'
The two feature-length films that make up 'Grindhouse' pay tribute to the gratuitous slasher flicks that have influenced both Tarantino and Rodriguez throughout their careers. Both features are surrounded by fake trailers, which promote the aforementioned genres as well as a sexploitation flick, a spaghetti western and the like.
'If those trailers are great enough, they might be part of the feature we do for the next Grindhouse,' Rodriguez told MTV in an interview last July.
Tarantino's instalment is called 'Death Proof' and centres on a killer who pursues his victims with a souped-up car. The film stars Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson and Rose McGowan.
Rodriguez's half is a zombie movie entitled 'Planet Terror' and stars Naveen Andrews, Michael Biehn and Marley Shelton.
'Grindhouse' is set for release in April.
