PGA nominations announced
'The Queen' makes the cut, but both of Clint Eastwood's WWII epics are left out.
Jan 4 2007
The Producers Guild of America has announced its nominees for the Darryl F Zanuck Producer of the Year Awards in Theatrical Motion Picture, and they are:
'Babel'
'The Departed'
'Dreamgirls'
'Little Miss Sunshine'
'The Queen'
Now while this isn't the most interesting of nomination announcements, two films are notable for their absence – 'Flags of our Fathers' and 'Letters From Iwo Jima'. The two Clint Eastwood pics, which examine the WWII battle on Iwo Jima from the American and Japanese sides, were thought to be award shoo-ins on their release, but critics are now saying that they might just cancel each other out.
I sincerely hope that doesn't happen as they are both wonderful films, but it will be interesting to see how the Academy Award nominations pan out when they are announced. The PGA awards meanwhile, will take place in Los Angeles on January 20.
