Eastwood misses out on DGAs
Scorsese, Condon and Frears all get nominated but big Clint misses out.
Jan 10 2007
The nominations for the Directors Guild of America's top prize have been announced, and Clint Eastwood's name is conspicuous by its absence.
Much like last weeks Producers Guild nominations, neither Eastwood's 'Flags of our Fathers' or 'Letters From Iwo Jima' made the cut, perhaps because voting for each film cancelled the other out.
It's still a strong field however, with the list going something like this:
Bill Condon – 'Dreamgirls'
Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris – 'Little Miss Sunshine'
Stephen Frears – 'The Queen'
Alejandro González Iñárritu – 'Babel'
Martin Scorsese – 'The Departed'
In response to his nomination, Scorsese said 'It is a great honor to receive this recognition from my fellow filmmakers. As with all films, the making of 'The Departed' was a group effort, and the opportunity to work alongside its talented cast and crew was a reward in itself. But I am very grateful for the DGA's nomination, which recognizes the contribution of not just myself but my entire directing team.'
The winner will be announced in LA on February 3.
