Depp heads to India
Mira Nair will direct Johnny Depp in an adaptation of 'Shantaram'.
Jan 19 2007
Mira Nair has stepped into Peter Weir's sizable shoes to direct the film version of Indian epic 'Shantaram'.
The 'Vanity Fair' helmer will direct Johnny Depp in the story of a former drug addict who works as a gun-runner to buy medicine for the poor and homeless children of Bombay.
Eric Roth is currently adapting Gregory David Robert's sizable tome, with Graham King and Depp producing.
'We are really enthusiastic about having Mira onboard this incredible project' said King. 'With her lush visual style, she lends an authentic and vital eye to this story which has been beautifully adapted for the big screen by Eric Roth, a master storyteller. We are also thrilled to be pairing up Mira with the uniquely talented Johnny Depp.'
