Vote for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star

Here's your chance to have a say in who wins this major award.

Jan 24 2007

With all the hoopla surrounding yesterday's Academy Awards nominations, which you can't vote for (unless you happen to be a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), how about an award that you can – namely The BAFTA Orange Rising Star.

A celebration of the actors and actresses who have demonstrated exceptional talent and captured the imagination of the public over the last year, the Rising Star is unique in that it's the only award to be voted for by the British public.

And this year's nominees are Emily Blunt ('The Devil Wears Prada') Eva Green ('Casino Royale'), Naomie Harris ('Miami Vice', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'), Cillian Murphy ('The Wind that Shakes the Barley') and Ben Whishaw ('Perfume: The Story of a Murderer').

Speaking about the award, last year's winner James McAvoy said: 'This award is very special because it's in honour of [casting director] Mary Selway, somebody who cared about nurturing talent and not just about finding the next big thing for the next five minutes. It's doubly special because the audience vote for it, it feels nice to know that they are rooting for you.'

For information on how to vote for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Awards online or by text, visit www.orange.co.uk/orsa. The winner will be announced at The Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday February 11.
