Walters tells SAS story
Rupert Walters is to write a screenplay about the genesis of the hard as nails fighting force.
Jan 30 2007
'Restoration' scribe Rupert Walters is daring to win by writing a screenplay based on the extraordinary wartime activities of SAS creator David Stirling for HandMade Films.
Based on 'David Stirling – The Authorised Biography' by Alan Hoe, the script will revolve around Stirling's original concept for the SAS and their activities during the North African campaign of 1941-42.
At only 26, Stirling lead the first successful Special Operations raid behind German lines, and together with his unit destroyed over 400 aircraft, hundreds of vehicles and thousands of tons of ammunition and fuel.
Speaking of the project, Walters said 'I have been absolutely fascinated by the exploits and achievements of David Stirling for many years and am looking forward to bringing his story to the big screen.'
HandMade MD Antony Rufus Isaacs added 'This is an epic and incredibly exciting project that HandMade Films is embarking on. Everyone is familiar with the SAS, but few people know of its origins. David Stirling was the driving force behind the birth of the SAS, a clandestine group which sets the standard for all special forces. Like Lawrence of Arabia, Stirling was a man of vision and a man of action.'
