Berlin winners announced

'Tuya's Marriage' takes home the Golden Bear, while 'The Good Shepherd' wins a special award.

Feb 19 2007

'Tuya's Marriage', the story of a Mongolian woman forced to leave her disabled husband in the country to find a more suitable spouse in the city, won the Golden Bear at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival. Accepting the award, Chinese director Wang Quan'an said it was the perfect way to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Elsewhere the awards were pretty evenly split, with Nina Hoss winning best actress for domestic abuse drama 'Yella' and Julio Chavez winning best actor for his role as a man who assumes another identity in Argentine film 'The Other'.

The best director award went to Joseph Cedar for Israeli war film 'Beaufort', while Robert De Niro's 'The Good Shepherd' received a special award for the film's ensemble cast.
