More 'Saw'
Darren Lynn Bousman will start shooting 'Saw IV' in April for an October release.
Feb 20 2007
That 'Saw' conveyer belt just keeps on rolling, with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures confirming that director Darren Lynn Bousman has signed up to direct a fourth film in the franchise.
And gore-hounds won't have long to wait for 'Saw IV' either, with production set to start on April 16 for an October 26 release.
'Having Darren behind the camera gives 'Saw IV' a real edge, so to speak' said Lionsgate president of acquisitions Peter Block. 'He has led this franchise into box office history while proving himself a modern master of psychological terror.'
As for the director himself, here's what Bousman had to say: 'It's not often that a filmmaker is given the opportunity to follow a genuinely compelling character through two films, much less three, so I'm very excited about picking up the reigns on 'Saw IV' and delving even deeper into the Jigsaw legend.'
My one worry is that these films are being rushed into production at the expense of the story. In spite of some poor performances (Cary Elwes, I'm talking to you) and the need for a mighty suspension of disbelief, the first film was the best thing to happen to horror in years. Part two was poor however, and the over-the-top antics of part three were only a slight improvement. Here's hoping that more time has been spent on the script for this one, as I'd hate to see the 'Saw' franchise cut off its leg to spite its body.
