Snyder delivers 'Sucker Punch'
'Dawn of the Dead' helmer Zack Snyder promises B-52 bombers and brothels in a future film.
Mar 5 2007
Zack Snyder has announced plans to shoot an intriguing action fantasy that he describes as 'Alice in Wonderland' with machine guns.
Set in the 1950s, 'Sucker Punch' follows the adventures of a young girl institutionalised in a mental asylum by her evil (aren't they always?) stepfather. While there, she retreats into a fantasy world where she has to steal five objects in order to escape (and bizarrely, avoid being deflowered by an apparently vile man).
'A while ago I had written a script for myself and there was a sequence in it that made me think, 'How can I make a film that can have action sequences in it that aren't limited by the physical realities that normal people are limited by, but still have the story make sense so it's not, and I don't mean to be mean, like a bullshit thing like 'Ultraviolet' or something like that?'' Snyder said. 'And also, I was really inspired by the worlds of movies like 'Moulin Rouge!' which is modern but at the same time timeless.'
Snyder will co-write 'Sucker Punch' with Steve Shibuya, with production set to start after he has finished work on the long-gestating film version of 'Watchmen'. Snyder releases his adaptation of Frank Miller's '300' on March 23.
