Cruz to star in ‘Animal’ flick
Cast is announced for new Phillip Roth adaptation
Mar 7 2007
Oscar-nominated Penelope Cruz is set to star opposite Ben Kingsley and Patricia Clarkson in an untitled erotic drama based on controversial American author Phillip Roth's novella 'The Dying Animal'.
The story is a lusty tale about a 62-year-old professor who beds his 24-year-old student. Nicholas Meyer has penned the script and has previously adapted Roth's 'The Human Strain' for the same company Lakeshore Entertainment.
The film’s producer, Lakeshore's Tom Rosenburg has been keen to adapt Roth for some time, 'He's one of the great American writers, and this one is squarely an adult story, with the kind of erotic scenes that hark back to the films of the 1970s'.
Fans of the Volver star are in raptures. Filming starts in April.
