Holmes' replacement found

Gyllenhaal signs up for Batman sequel

Mar  9 2007

Maggie Gyllenhaal is to star as Christian Bale's on-screen squeeze in the next offering of the revitalised Batman franchise 'The Dark Knight'. She takes over from Katie Holmes' role as assistant district attorney Rachel Dawes. The search was on for a new Batman beau after Mrs Tom Cruise mysteriously dropped out earlier in the year.

Director Christopher Nolan starts work with an all-star cast which includes Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and newcomers Heath Ledger (Joker) and Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent/Two Face) in June this year.
