Hitler tempts Cruise

Tom Cruise is to star in Bryan Singer's new film about an attempt on the life of Adolf Hitler.

Mar 21 2007

Tom Cruise is to team up with Bryan Singer on an as-yet-untitled WWII film about an attempt on the life of Adolf Hitler.

The Hollywood heavey-hitters will start work on the pic for UA this summer, based on a script by Nathan Alexander and Christopher McQuarrie, who previously worked with Singer on 'The Usual Suspects'.

The film will be based on actual events involving a German plot to do away with the fuehrer, and while it's not yet clear who Cruise will play, we're pulling for Singer to cast him as the vertically challenged megalomaniac.

'After reading the scripts, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film we had to make' said Cruise's producing partner Paula Wagner. 'As an added bonus, because of Bryan Singer's involvement and Tom's admiration for him as a filmmaker as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor. I cannot think of a more perfect combination of creative elements for our second production'.

Wagner and Cruise's first film for UA, political thriller 'Lions for Lambs', will be released at the end of the year.
