Pollack demands 'Recount'
Sydney Pollack is to direct a film about America's 2000 Presidential election.
Apr 2 2007
Never one to shy away from potentially controversial material, 'Three Days of the Condor' helmer Sydney Pollack has signed up to direct a film about America's 2000 Presidential election entitled 'Recount'.
Revolving around the election night confusion in Florida, the film will focus on some of the 175,000 voters whose ballots were rejected as well as the Republican and Democratic teams that were sent to sort out the mess in the weeks that followed.
Actor Danny Strong has written the script, with production set to start later in the year for HBO Films.
'It's a very compelling piece that takes a well-known event and deconstructs it from the point of view of the people involved,' said HBO president Colin Callender. 'It doesn't take sides. It's a fascinating look at democracy where the rubber meets the road – a look at the election process like we have never seen it before.'
'Recount' will premiere on the internet before hitting HBO next spring.
