'Speed Racer' gets his girl

Update: Christina Ricci joins Emile Hirsch, John Goodman and Susan Sarandon in the action epic.

Apr 13 2007

With Emile Hirsch already cast as the titular 'Speed Racer' in the live action adaptation of the Japanese anime, there was no word on who would play the youngster's parents… until now that is.

Directors the Wachowski brothers have offered the role of race car builder Pops to John Goodman while they've asked Susan Sarandon to play the mother, who also forms part of Speed Racer's Mach 5 Go Racing Team.

The big budget film is set to shoot in Germany this summer, with the hunt now on to find an actress to play Speed's girlfriend Trixie, and his mysterious arch-enemy Racer X.

UPDATE: Christina Ricci has been cast as Speed Racer's girl Trixie.
