'Lord of the Rings' all nighter
Fans will get the chance to spend an entire night in Middle Earth when London's bfi Imax cinema screens all three movies consecutively.
Nov 11 2004
Have coffee, cushions and Pro Plus at the ready because the bfi London Imax cinema is planning the ultimate, all night 'Lord of the Rings' experience.
At the end of the month the cinema will screen all three films from the trilogy in quick succession.
Starting early in the evening (8pm on Fridays, 8.30pm on Saturdays) London's biggest screen will show 'The Fellowship of the Rings', 'The Two Towers' and 'Return of the King' consecutively in their original theatrical 35mm forms.
And there's little chance of falling asleep as the venue has timetabled 30 minute breaks between each film and will even provide complimentary tea and coffee throughout the night.
On top of that, those who come in costume will be in with a chance of winning a prize and there will also be spot prizes handed out by staff in between films.
Theatre manager Jason Bainbridge told Time Out: 'We showed all five 'Star Wars' films back in June 2002 so we knew that people love having the chance to see these big movies back to back in one night. The first two 'Lord of the Rings' films sold out when we screened them together last Easter so we always wanted to play all three in due course.
'So far as I know only one cinema has ever shown all three 'Lord of the Rings' films but they were during the day,' he continued: 'This is the first time that fans will be able to watch them all through the night.'
Screenings take place in November on Friday 19 and Saturday 20, and Friday 26 and Saturday 27, and we can't think of a more precious way to spend nearly 11 hours.
Tickets are available from the bfi London Imax box office on 0870 787 2525.
