Eric Bana is 'The Time Traveler'
While Rachel McAdams is 'The Time Traveler's Wife' in the eagerly anticipated sci-fi romance.
Apr 18 2007
'The Time Traveler's Wife' is one of the most successful and beloved novels of the last few years, so the pressure is on New Line to get their screen version of Audrey Niffenegger's tome right.
'Ghost' writer Bruce Joel Rubin has already been charged with the difficult task of adapting the decade-hopping story while 'Flightplan' helmer Robert Schwentke will direct, but much of the success of the film will be down to the chemistry between its two leads.
And in my humble opinion, they've nailed it. As previously reported, Rachel McAdams will play titular wife Clare, and her solid performances in 'The Notebook', 'Red Eye' and 'The Family Stone' suggest that she's just the right actress to capture the character's mixture of fear, dread and wide-eyed romantic optimism.
And today she got her husband in the shape of the always brilliant Eric Bana. The 'Munich' star will play the mild-mannered yet tough Henry DeTamble, whose genetic disorder sends him hurtling through time at the drop of a hat.
With cast and crew therefore set, 'The Time Traveler's Wife' starts production in August and will doubtless be one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2008.
