WS Anderson's 'Long Good Friday'

Paul WS Anderson set to remake the iconic British gangster film

May 16 2007

Proving that no British classic is sacred, seminal gangster film 'The Long Good Friday' is getting the Hollywood treatment. And if that weren't enough cause for mourning, consider that the dread Paul WS Anderson is in the driving seat.

Shifting the action from 1980s London to present-day Miami, Anderson is scripting and directing the $50 million remake – which is being backed by HandMade Films together with Impact Pictures.

''The Long Good Friday' was an astonishing view of 1980s gangland that shocked audiences with its urban crime and violence. I am delighted to have the opportunity to put a new spin on this classic film which promises to reveal today's underworld in an equally shocking fashion,' explained Anderson, putting absolutely no one's mind at rest.

Casting is due for later this year, with production slated to commence in summer 2008, after Anderson has worked his inimitable 'magic' on his 'Death Race 2000' remake; plenty of time for him to get sidetracked by the next disastrous idea.
