Gerard Butler journeys to 'Nim's Island'

'300' actor cast in adaptation of children's favourite

May 18 2007

Man of the moment Gerard Butler, last seen flexing his pecs in '300', has been cast in fantasy adventure 'Nim's Island'. He joins existing members Jody Foster and 'Little Miss Sunshine''s Oscar-nominated Abigail Breslin.

Adapted and directed by husband and wife team Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, from Wendy Orr's beloved children's book, the story revolves around the titular Nim; a girl living on a tropical island with her father. When he goes missing, and a storm descends, Nim uses email contact with an adventure writer to try and survive the precarious scenario.

Produced by Fox Walden – the partnership forged between Fox Filmed Entertainment and Walden Media – 'Nim's Island' is slated for an April 2008 release.

Butler, who will surely play the AWOL daddy of the piece, is certainly in demand of late. He has romance 'P.S, I Love You' up next, and is already being talked up as a candidate to reunite with '300' director Zack Snyder for his hugely anticipated 'Watchmen'.

Let's hope this means the Scot's too preoccupied to appear as Snake Plissken in the recently touted remake of 'Escape From New York'.
