'The Dark Knight' just got bigger
Director Chris Nolan announces plans to shoot some of the 'Batman Begins' sequel using IMAX cameras.
May 29 2007
Christopher Nolan has announced plans to shoot four sequences from 'The Dark Knight' using IMAX cameras, making it quite literally the biggest film of 2008. The 'Batman Begins' sequel, which sees Christian Bale facing off against Heath Ledger's Joker, will be the first major feature to be partially shot using the expansive cameras.
Speaking of the decision, Nolan said 'In continuing the story of such a great icon, I'm thrilled to be able to expand the scope of the film, not just in terms of its story, but in giving Batman and the Joker the largest possible canvas on which to face off. No existing technology compares with the IMAX format in terms of its ability to throw the audience into the action, and we're very proud and excited to use this technology in a way that no one has before.'
Nolan has already shot the first of these scenes, a prologue that introduces the Joker, and will film the other three sequences during principal photography later in the year.
'The Dark Knight' is set to hit screens worldwide on July 18, 2008.
