Jim Carrey loves Phillip Morris

Jim Carrey is set to star in a comedy about a series of prison breaks entitled 'I Love You Phillip Morris'.

Jun  4 2007

Jim Carrey is set to play a jailbird turned escape artist in 'I Love You Phillip Morris', a dark comedy from the writers of 'Bad Santa'.

Based on journalist Steve McVicker's fact-based book of the same name, the film sees Carrey play married father Russell, whose criminal exploits landed him in a Texan prison.

While there he fell in love with his titular cellmate, and once Morris was set free, Russell made no less than four escape attempts in order to be reunited with him.

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, whose 'Bad Santa' was one of the funniest films of the last few years, pitched the $20m comedy as 'Catch Me If You Can' meets 'Brokeback Mountain'. The pair will make their directorial debut with the feature, although a start date now depends on whether Carrey will tackle this project or 'Ripley's Believe It or Not' next.
