Cinemas set for another 'Big Chill'
Screen Gems are planning a remake of 'The Big Chill' featuring an African American cast.
Jun 13 2007
A remake of 1980s classic 'The Big Chill' is in the works, with plans to contemporise the story, change the title and cast African Americans in the lead roles.
Screen Gems currently own the rights to the film and are looking for a writer to update Lawrence Kasdan and Barbara Benedek's screenplay, which revolved around a group of college pals reuniting for the funeral of a friend.
So far, only 'Jerry Maguire' star Regina King has been cast in the pic, but as the original made stars of the likes of Tom Berenger, Glenn Close, Jeff Goldblum and Kevin Kline, competition will likely be fierce for roles in the remake. Screen Gems hopes to have the film in production by the end of the year.
