Film Council Offers Funding for Movie Ideas
Got a film idea involving animals, the occult or a fish out of water? Then get applying now and your script could soon be hitting the big screen.
Jan 27 2005
The UK Film Council is awarding prizes of £10,000 to screenwriters as part of their '25 Words or Less' scheme.
An industry term used to describe a film idea that can be encapsulated in one sentence, '25 Words or Less' runs until February 1, and the winners will receive National Lottery funding so their idea can be fast-tracked to a full screenplay.
The scheme is looking for projects in the following genres:
Fish Out Of Water – Examples include 'Crocodile Dundee', 'Legally Blonde' and 'Witness'.
Animal Adventure – Examples include '101 Dalmations', 'Babe' and 'Free Willy'.
Occult Horror – Examples include 'The Wicker Man', 'Rosemary's Baby' and 'The Exorcist'.
Applicants must provide a pitch of 25 words or less outlining the concept, a one-page outline of the whole story and ten pages of sample scenes from the chosen genre to demonstrate an ability to write in that genre.
Natalie Wreyford of the UK Film Council's Development Fund said: 'The '25 Words or Less' scheme has proved to be a real success. It has helped to shine the spotlight on a new generation of film writers – some who have received a real boost to their careers.'
Applicants should have a literary agent or be a full member of the writer's guild. Alternatively aspiring writers can apply through the Film Council's normal application process.
Deadline for submissions is 10am, 1 February 2005. For more details consult the Film Council’s website at www.ukfilmcouncil.org.
