'Deep Throat' to Return
A documentary on the notorious porn flick 'Deep Throat' is to be followed by a re-release of the original in America.
Feb 9 2005
It looks like the legendary porn movie 'Deep Throat' may be making a return to cinema screens thanks to a new documentary based on the film.
'Inside Deep Throat', directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato and produced by long-time Ron Howard collaborator Brian Grazer, set tongues wagging when it was previewed at Sundance last month.
Examining the enduring cultural legacy of 'Deep Throat', a film that cost around $25,000 to make in 1972 and has reportedly grossed more than $600 million since, the documentary tells the story from the film's inception to the present day, covering all the controversy that 'Deep Throat' has stirred up in between.
The release of the documentary in cinemas across America later this month has prompted exhibitors to request copies of the original to screen alongside it.
Arrow Productions, who own the copyright to the legendary skin flick in the States, are currently working on two different re-mastered prints of the film.
Their plan is to release five copies of the original 1972 cut with an NC-17 rating (which normally results in box office disaster in America), and five edited versions so that the film can earn a more tame R rating.
They hope that both versions of the film will be ready for distribution by February 18.
As for UK fans getting the 'Deep Throat' experience over here in the near future, Momentum plan to release the documentary in cinemas in June, although whether the original porn classic will follow remains to be seen.
The dirty mac brigade will be no doubt waiting with baited breath…
