'The Transformers' are coming!
With Steven Spielberg producing, and Michael Bay a possibility to direct, this looks to be the ultimate in hig
Apr 6 2005
After years of rumour, hearsay and countless false starts, 'The Transformers' movie is finally set to hit the big screen, and it's all thanks to god-like genius Steven Spielberg apparently.
The franchise had previously been stranded in development hell, with studios unsure how to make a live-action version of the hugely successful cartoon.
However, Variety reports that Spielberg recently came up with a new take on the 'robots in disguise', which writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci pitched to director Michael Bay ('Bad Boys', 'Armageddon' and the forthcoming 'The Island').
Impressed with their work, Bay has now got the pair of scribes busy beavering away on a script, and if he likes the result, the production should hit the ground running later in the year for a November 17, 2006 release.
And for those of you who don't have a clue what we're talking about, 'The Transformers' was a phenomenally successful 1980s cartoon/toy line/comic book series that concerned two warring factions of robots, the heroic Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, and the evil Decepticons, led by the dastardly Megatron.
There was more than meets the eye to these robots however, as they could 'transform' themselves into everything from a space shuttle (very useful) to a car (quite useful) to a tape cassette (not that useful at all really).
If Bay does direct - and with Spielberg already signed on as executive producer - expect this one to be big with a capital B and, in Transformer terms, a hit of Astrotrain-sized proportions.

- Michael Bay is dumb as hell for even thinking he can direct the Transformers. I hate all his films. I'd rather watch my dog lick his balls than live knowing my favorite cartoon is going down the s#!$$@%. Posted on Aug 14 2006 06:46

I'm anxiously expecting the movie next year. I hope they will use the same music like in the '80s cartoon. I mean the same melodies like in the intros our in the cartoon-movie. The theme from White Lion was great!
I dreamed of a life-action movie in the late '80s, some darker and of course not only for kids - but also for the today adults who love(d) the '80s-cartoon Posted on Jul 30 2006 20:12 - Report as inappropriate

- WOW, Transformers the movie. Im like a kid ina candy store all over again. I used to watch the cartoon everyday after school. Didn't miss an episode. Spielberg is the man. So I know it will be amazing. I always tried to imagine as a kid what they would look like if they were real. Now after 20 years I'll be able to see it with the help of movie magic. Hi,
I have been a fan of the transformers since childhood. I'm looking forward to owning this movie. My kids just love anything with transformers in it. Please don't ruin this movie with bad language or make it innapropriate for children. I would love for my children to be able to see. And I think millions of parents would think the same. This would make the alltime favorite list if you keep it clean.
Thanks. Posted on Jul 18 2006 18:48 - Report as inappropriate

- Hey Transformers the movies its so freakin groovy aslong as they stay old school. I mean Megatron I would switch to cannon and Soundwave a CD or digital spy unit.As long as they dont let some hack like Singer ruin it like he did with the X-Men and Superman we are all good .Rami would be good cuz he actually loves the mythoes of these times and the origins of the Legends he directs over. Look at Spiderman for God sakes the mans a genius....well..okay Stan the man Lee is a genius Posted on Jul 16 2006 18:36
