'Sin City' topples 'Revenge of the Sith'
The comic book adaptation goes straight in at number one, while The League of Gentlemen have to settle with third place.
Jun 7 2005
Marv, Dwight, Hartigan, Gail, Nancy and the rest of the sub-human scum that populate 'Sin City' have finally knocked Anakin and his CGI pals off the top of the London box office.
Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez's stunning comic book adaptation entered the London charts at number one this weekend, raking in a hugely impressive £252,757 three-day haul.
'Revenge of the Sith' continued to collect money hand over fist however, grossing £222,874 in the capital and seeing off the 'Sin City' attack throughout the rest of the country where it remained in pole position (and has thus far made a whopping £32.66 million).
And in third place, 'The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse' managed a very respectable £41,047, a sum that should increase as word of mouth on this weird and wonderful TV spin-off spreads.
Elsewhere, former Time Out film of the week 'The Consequences of Love' goes from strength to strength in fourth place, in spite of the fact that it is only playing on four screens, while 'Monster-in-Law' and 'The Pacifier' continue, inexplicably, to out-gross Danny Boyle's hugely enjoyable 'Millions'.
As for next week, expect the chart to remain much the same, with only the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie actioner 'Mr & Mrs Smith' likely to make any kind of dent on the top three.
